1.Who we are
This website is run by Cafe Edinburgh, 57 High Street (Royal Mile), Edinburgh EH1 1SR, Scotland, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal information described here. Questions about this policy or your data: hello@cafeedinburgh.com.
2.What we collect and why
You can browse the whole site without giving us any personal information. We only collect it when you choose to contact us:
- Contact form — your name, email address and message. We use them only to read and reply to your message. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (or taking steps you ask for before a visit).
- Your IP address — when you send the form, the server keeps your IP address in memory for two hours to stop spam (one message per device every two hours). It is not written to a database and is forgotten after two hours or when the server restarts.
- Server logs — like every website, our server records basic technical details of requests (IP address, page, time, browser type) to keep the site secure and working. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to identify you.
We do not use your information for marketing, we do not build profiles, and we never sell or share it for advertising.
3.Who else handles your information
- Resend delivers contact-form messages to our mailbox (privacy policy).
- Our email provider stores the messages we receive and our replies.
- Google — the site shows our Google rating and reviews (reviewers’ profile pictures are loaded from Google), and offers a Google map on the contact page that loads only if you click to show it. Your browser connects to Google to fetch these, which shares your IP address with Google (Google privacy policy). Our fonts are hosted on our own server, not by Google.
- Instagram (Meta) — photos from our Instagram account may be loaded from Meta’s servers, which shares your IP address with Meta (Instagram privacy policy).
Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where your information leaves the UK, it is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK–US Data Bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
4.How long we keep it
We keep contact-form messages and our replies only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry, and normally delete them within 12 months, unless we need to keep them longer for a legal reason.
5.Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it, or to delete it;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
- ask for it in a portable format.
To use any of these rights, email hello@cafeedinburgh.com. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
6.Cookies
This website does not use cookies to track you. See our cookie policy for the details.
7.Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
